Collection: Pyromorphite

A lead phosphate mineral,
known for its vivid green tones
and tightly packed crystal clusters.

Pyromorphite typically forms in the oxidized zones
of lead deposits,
where mineral-rich solutions allow crystals
to grow in short, hexagonal prisms.

Rather than single large crystals,
it often appears as dense groupings —
layered, rounded, or botryoidal in texture.

Its color ranges from bright green to olive,
depending on trace elements within the structure.

First described in the late 18th century,
its name comes from the Greek for “fire” and “form,”
referring to how its crystals change shape
when heated.

Though structurally well-defined,
pyromorphite is relatively soft,
and is more often appreciated in specimen form
or carefully set pieces.
