Formation: Amethyst forms in volcanic rock cavities, where silica-rich fluids slowly crystallize into quartz over time. Its purple color develops from trace iron combined with natural irradiation during formation. In Uruguay deposits, crystals often grow densely with deeper, more saturated color due to slower, more compact crystal development.
